We are sickened and disgusted by the acts of blatant violence, racism, and hate-inspired vandalism against our Asian-American and Pacific-Islander community. For far too long in our country and our city of Philadelphia, the AAPI community has endured senseless acts of violence and discrimination stemming from many forms of ethnic, racial, and cultural discrimination. In addition to the escalated violence and incidents occurring nationally, there has been an uptick in violent acts and vandalism against the Asian community in our city’s neighborhoods. As professionals and community members, we have not done enough to condemn and speak up against these reprehensible actions. Our silence is unacceptable, and we speak out now to denounce hatred, racism, and violence in all forms. AIA Philadelphia stands in solidarity with the AAPI community, and we will not tolerate false and racist rhetoric and the violent acts committed against the AAPI community.
To our Asian and Asian American Philadelphians and AIA members: You belong here, and you are a valued, equal and integral part of our community.
To All of Us: We must intervene and report acts of harassment and violence against the AAPI community to continue our work to dismantle racism and speak up against hatred, bigotry, and violent acts of all kinds.
Donate to Stop AAPI Hate, which provides resources on how to speak out and denounce anti-Asian racism and provides records and reporting on anti-Asian crime and incidents.
