In Memorium: Eric Lautzenheiser AIA, ACHA
It is with great sadness that we announce that our esteemed colleague and Director of Health Facilities Planning at FCA, Eric Lautzenheiser AIA, ACHA, passed away on July 28th. A graduate of Rice University and the University of Pennsylvania, Eric worked at Mitchell Giurgola (MGA) and Montgomery and Bishop, and held senior positions at Kling, Vitetta, and most recently at Francis Cauffman Architects (FCA) in Philadelphia. He was also an associate at RNL in Denver, and Murray Jones Murray in Tulsa. He was an expert in the field of healthcare planning.
For Eric, each client’s challenge was an opportunity to develop an optimal solution that effectively melds all elements together into cohesive resolution. He approached programming, planning and design collectively and shaped them as a continuous, integrated process and in doing so, he focused on the development and refinement of a Collaborative Work Process with clients and team members. Dual trained as an architect and city planner, he brought to the table an understanding of healthcare as a collection of complex interactive systems.
To his colleagues, friends and clients alike, Eric was a genuine character, an expert in the field of health planning, a leader, a mentor, a wealth of knowledge and expertise and one of the most insightful people you could ever meet. In his presence you always knew you were going to hear some sound ‘words of wisdom’, even if on occasions it was accompanied by a few stories on the way. Eric’s vast contribution over the years to the profession and clients will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10 at the Friends Center, 1501 Arch St. at 11:00 am.
