Linode Headquarters receives 2019 Grand Jury Award from the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia
The Preservation Alliance recognized Ballinger’s recent renovation of the Corn Exchange National Bank Building at the 2019 Preservation Achievement Awards. The Old City landmark, known for its neoclassical style and history as a former MTV Real World house, was built for the Union Bank of Philadelphia in 1907 and now serves as workspace for the growing cloud-hosting company Linode.
Ballinger designed the 22,300 SF adaptive reuse, retaining the building’s character-defining features, including the exterior, a double-story banking hall and board room. The interior is designed to reflect Linode’s innovative culture. Ubiquitous transparency and a variety of collaboration spaces support Linode’s goals to improve communication between teams and retain talent. The former banking hall is now a commons for gatherings and special events.
The mission of the Preservation Alliance is to promote appreciation and appropriate use of the Philadelphia’s historic buildings, communities and landscapes. The annual Preservation Achievement Awards honor outstanding contributions to the preservation of the region’s architectural and cultural heritage. Linode’s founder and CEO, Chris Aker, and Ballinger’s Director of Historic Preservation, Fon S. Wang, AIA, LEED AP, accepted the Grand Jury Award at a ceremony on June 5.
