On Tuesday, 4 December 2018, Moore College of Art & Design’s Connelly Library will unveil its much-anticipated transformation with a Grand Opening Ceremony.

Daroff Design Inc. + DDI Architects, PC (DDI) are proud to have been the Architect and Interior Designer for the newly renovated library, bringing a circa 1959 academic library into the 21st-century, and creating an ultramodern art and design learning center. The nearly $2 million renovation has been underway for the last year and was made possible by generous gifts from The Connelly Foundation and from The McLean Contributionship.

The design totally reorganized the 8,300 square-foot space to be an efficiently functioning learning space, fostering commitment to inspiration and innovation for students. The project includes new finishes, furnishings, lighting, advanced technology, a multipurpose video conference room, support offices, a writing center, a reading room, a lounge area, and more. There are flexible distinct spaces to accommodate the needs of students and faculty alike. Looking outward to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Logan Square, the window walls were expanded by removing built-in bookcases which allows the Northern light filtration and delivers views of the historic square.

Karen Daroff, President of DDI and a Moore alumna, said, “It is particularly rewarding and exciting for me to give back my talent and experience to the institution that began my career and gave so much to me.”

All involved from DDI found the project to be gratifying and the team members are thrilled to see the doors finally open. The DDI team included, Thomas Daley, AIA, Principal, Michelle Segre, LEED AP, Associate Principal, Christopher Greene, AIA, LEED, AP, Associate, and Louis Iannone, Interior Designer.

Emily Bittenbender of Bittenbender Construction LP, also a Moore alumna, executed the construction and, in turn, contributed to the increased attraction for the Philadelphia college.
