Community College of Philadelphia Students Wins 2nd and 3rd Place in CCCAP
This past spring, Elizabeth Masters, AIA, AFAAR, Visiting Lecturer, led CCP's ADC 259 Design IV Studio in Architecture and Interior Design where students executed the CCCAP Fifth Annual Student Architectural Design Competition for an Environmental Center on a fragile seaside site at Balandra Beach in Baja, CA, Mexico. Three student projects from Ms. Masters’ studio were submitted to the national competition sponsored by the Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs. Sofiia Brozo won second place in the competition, and Raymond Chen placed third, chosen by a jury of distinguished architects from San Francisco, chaired by Rosa Sheng, FAIA, founding chair of Equity X Design and Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Smith Group where she is Principal.
Both winning students were May graduates from the CCP ADC Department with AA degrees in Architecture. Ms. Brozo will begin her studies in architecture at Drexel in the fall, and Mr. Chen will begin at Jefferson, also in architecture. Under the tutelage of Ms. Masters, both design solutions demonstrated excellence in creativity, concept, formal expression, program, site, sustainability, and graphic presentation, while exploring human relationships with water, ecology, and the natural environment expressed through architecture and landscape design.
