Chemours and IMC Construction to Celebrate Safety: Discovery Hub construction site in Delaware sets the standard in safe building
Philadelphia, PA (May 2018) – IMC Construction, a nationally-recognized, full-service construction company, will join with Chemours, a global chemistry company, to recognize the high standard of safety on the construction site of the new Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, Delaware. “Chemours Safety Day” will be held on Friday, May 11th on the STAR campus of the University of Delaware.
“IMC is proud to be a part of this extraordinary project for Chemours,” said Rob Cottone, President, IMC Construction. “’People first’ is the cornerstone of our company values, reflected in our strong record of accident-free construction. IMC is built on a foundation of safety preparedness and ongoing training, and we are pleased to partner with Chemours in celebrating our shared culture of safety.”
Special guests will include Chemours President and CEO Mark Vergnano, who chairs the National Safety Council Board of Directors, and Dr. Dennis Assanis, the President of the University of Delaware. The event will include comments and demonstrations of best practices followed by a lunch for all construction personnel.
The goal of Safety Day is to reinforce the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture every day on every site in order to prevent injuries and save lives. All IMC Construction site workers complete OSHA training in Fall Protection, First Aid, CPR, AED, Excavation, Electrical Safety and a number of other required skills. Similarly, Chemours is committed to maintaining safe work environments and integrating safety, health and care for each individual into operating practices.
Chemours Discovery Hub
The Chemours Discovery Hub is a research facility currently under construction at the University of Delaware’s Science Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus in Newark, Delaware. The 330,000-square-foot Hub will consolidate laboratories and offices for approximately 330 scientists, engineers and researchers, and connect the industry leader with one of the foremost bio-engineering schools in the country. The four-story Hub will include more than 100 labs, fifty specialty rooms, cafes, conference rooms and twenty “huddle” rooms for small group meetings.
The project will bring together scientists who are currently spread out among a number of sites, including Chemours’ New Castle, Delaware facility, and consolidate their research in one location. The Hub joins buildings for technology and energy companies, the health sciences, and a biopharmaceutical structure also under construction on the STAR Campus.
It will be the headquarters for the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIMBLE), a University of Delaware partnership dedicated to discovering and manufacturing biopharmaceuticals that treat cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes and autoimmune diseases.
Project Team includes Architect – L2 Partridge; Civil Engineer – Tetra Tech; MEP Engineer – RDK Engineers; Structural Engineer – O’Donnell & Naccarato; Owners’ Representative – Trammell Crow. Construction began in December 2017 and is expected to be complete in early 2020.
