Michael Anastasio, Bala President and Bruce Votta, SVA President

Bala Consulting Engineers has acquired Baltimore based Spears/Votta & Associates, Inc. to establish BALA | SVA. The merger with Bala enables SVA to offer the value added services of Structural Engineering, Integrated Technology Design, Energy Modeling, Commissioning, Validation and Critical System Operation and Testing, to their clients. BALA | SVA will serve the corporate, education, data center, public sector, religious, healthcare and developer markets in the Baltimore region.

Both Spears/Votta & Associates (SVA) and Bala have over 35 years of engineering expertise and have designed numerous noteworthy projects. SVA’s landmark and notable projects include multiple towers and a central utility plant for Harbor East, historic redevelopment projects for Tide Point and Clipper Mill, Data Centers for T. Rowe Price, Constellation and BGE, a central utility plant for Washington, D.C. Convention Center, and Medstar Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Department Building.

As the leading independent engineering firm in the Philadelphia area, Bala is recognized for its excellence in engineering High-Rise buildings including the FMC Tower, the new Comcast Technology Center, and the Comcast Center as well as Mission Critical facilities. Some other notable projects include new student housing projects at Villanova, Drexel and Temple Universities as well as Marist College and multiple projects for Boston’s Logan Airport.

SVA leaders, Bruce Votta and Cory Colassard, will continue to run the operations for BALA | SVA, plus gain the value added technical resources, marketing efforts and access to Bala’s national relationships and clients.

SVA President, Bruce Votta said “we are very excited about the merger with Bala and see this as the natural evolution for SVA to become more competitive locally and expand our services and capabilities to better serve clients in the Baltimore market.”

Michael Anastasio, Bala’s President, concurs; “SVA has an excellent reputation and rapport with their clients. Bala shares that reputation of engineering excellence. As a mid-size firm that provides our clients with big firm expertise, we can offer our clients a great value by having a strong presence in Philadelphia, New York, Boston and now Baltimore. We believe Baltimore is an excellent place to expand our diverse range of engineering services along the East Coast Amtrak Corridor and SVA provides an excellent foundation for that growth.”

Bala is built on relationships first. Relationships with our staff, clients and business partners. From recruiting through engagement with our community of clients, staff and friends, we are committed to providing an exceptional experience that results in successful projects and successful careers. Our broad range of engineering services for the built environment makes buildings more valuable, energy efficient, secure and reliable. Bala is consistently ranked as a top engineering firm by ENR, Building Design & Construction and Consulting Specifying Engineer, and is registered in more than 30 states.
