AIA Philadelphia Presents 22 Awards at Annual Design Excellence Celebration

By Dominic Mercier

AIA Philadelphia presented its annual Awards for Design Excellence at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel on the evening of October 14. The local Chapter of the American Institute of Architects presented 22 awards to 15 of its Member Firms. In addition to the Design Awards, Mary Werner DeNadai, a principal at John Milner Architects and chair of the Chapter’s Fellows Committee, received the John Frederick Harbeson Award for distinguished service. Denise Thompson, an associate at Francis Cauffman, and Brian Szymanik, co-founder of MAKE. architecture + planning received the 2013 Young Architect Award. Stanev Potts Architects was awarded the Philadelphia Emerging Architecture Prize.
Aileen K. Roberts was the recipient of the inaugural Paul Philippe Cret Award, which recognizes an individual or organization that, while not an architect, has made a significant contribution to the design excellence of the Greater Philadelphia community. AIA Philadelphia’s board of directors selected Roberts because of her leadership as chair of the Barnes Museum Building Committee and selection of the museum’s architects, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien.
