SCHRADERGROUP Project Awarded Specialized Facility Citation in Architectural Portfolio |
| Feb 01, 2010 |

SCHRADERGROUP'S Central York School District Natatorium project was selected as a Specialized Facility Citation winner in the American School & University Architectural Portfolio. The project claimed one of 21 citations awarded among the 178 projects selected for publication.
The Central York School District Natatorium is a 20,000-square-foot facility that includes an eight-lane competition-class pool as well as supporting amenities for accommodating PIAA local and regional swim and diving meets. The natatorium - an addition to the existing high school - also supports the District's high school Physical Education curriculum and allows for swimming instruction for the children in the primary schools. Seating 500 spectators on the mezzanine level and 250 competitors on the pool deck level, the facility has independent vehicle drop-off and entrance points that permit use by students and the community before and after school hours without compromising school security. Some important design features include strategically placed windows for maximizing natural lighting, creative acoustics control, and indirect pool perimeter track lighting that prevents glare. Also, the use of roof mounted PoolPaks provide HVAC through fabric ductwork to prevent negative indoor air quality issues resulting from high humidity levels. This dehumidification system helps to reduce energy costs by recovering and returning heat to the indoor facility environment and reduces potable water usage by returning condensate to the pool.
