Current policies in historic preservation emphasize differentiating the new from the old and typically view new work in historic styles as "false history". Mr. Semes takes another approach, based on the premise that the wholeness and continuity of the historic setting is paramount. Mr. Semes will discuss ideas presented in his new book "The Future of the Past," followed by a reception.
This lecture is presented in conjunction with the 4th Annual Forum on Philadephia Preservation Practice 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Center for Architecture. (See listing on events page.)
This event is sponsored by AIA Philadelphia, Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America, Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadephia, and The Athenaeum.
